THE YARDBIRDS - The story...

In the 60's San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium became the top venue in the San Francisco Bay Area for popular music.

While an architecture student at UC Berkeley in the 60's and with an avid interest in photography, Gordon Linden attended a number of concerts and shows at the Fillmore where he saw and photographed some of the big names in rock music including San Francisco's own Jefferson Airplane, the legenday Chuck Berry (seen in this photo being backed up by the Steve Miller Band), the Yardbirds (with both Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck in tow), the Animals and Jimi Hendrix.

Three days after a stunning closing performance at the legendary Monterey Pop Festival held in June of 1967, the Jimi Hendrix Experience appeared at the Fillmore. Surprisingly, word about Hendrix' performance did not boost attendance at the Fillmore appearance as there were only about 50 people present.
